Clear the Smoke

Sometimes emotions like overwhelm, frustration, or sadness show up suddenly—almost like smoke filling a room. Just as smoke doesn’t always mean there’s a fire, strong emotions don’t always mean something is wrong. They’re signals from your nervous system that energy needs to move. By learning how to “clear the smoke,” you give that energy a safe way to leave your body instead of letting it build up.

Why It Works

✔️Stress sets off your body’s “smoke alarm” (the nervous system), even when there’s no real danger.

✔️If the energy stays trapped, it builds up like a pressure cooker, creating tension and overwhelm.

✔️Imagining a window and breathing deeply provides a release valve, letting the energy move out.

✔️As the “smoke” clears, your system calms and makes space for peace, gratitude, and joy to expand.

Practice Shifting

1. Notice – Pause and ask yourself: “Is this smoke or fire? Am I really in danger, or just overwhelmed?”

2. Locate – Tune in to where you feel the tension in your body (chest, stomach, head, etc.).

3. Open a Window – Imagine a window or valve at that spot, ready to release the smoke.

4. Breathe It Out – Use deep, steady breaths as a fan, visualizing the smoke leaving your body.

5. Replace with Light – Picture a ball of light in your chest filled with peace, gratitude, or joy. Let this light expand until it fills your whole body.

6. Anchor the Feeling – Smile gently and acknowledge: “I created this calm inside me.”

Remember

There’s nothing to fight off—just smoke that needs space to clear. With practice, this technique can shift your state in minutes and eventually in just one breath.
